- My name is Piotr Walerski. I was born on May 4th 1974 in Kielce. I am a graduate of The School of Fine Arts in Kielce. I received the Ministry of Culture prize and scholarship for the best degree work on Scandinavian theme " Valdemar Attertag collecting taxes from Visby citizens". In 1993 I took part in the 100th Anniversary of Jan Matejko's death exhibition organized in Cracow under the patronage of Lech Wałesa. I presented the copy of " Zamojski pod Byczyną ". In 1996 I was honoured by the President Aleksander Kwaśniewski with the Bronze Medal for my contribution in the Polish art and culture. In the mean time I presented my works at numerous both individual and group exhibitions and I also appeared in the media. I am fascinated by Matejko's pictures. I create copies of his works which you can admire in different museums and galleries as well as those lost which can be repainted on the basis of descriptions, drawings or photographs.
I dream of painting all his lost or unfinished pictures. Until now I have painted "Zamoyski at Byczyna", Własysław IV near Smoleńśk" and the portrait of his daughter Helena. I would very much like to paint unfinished by the author series of pictures "The History of Civilization in Poland", their sketches are kept in the Kings' Castle in Warsaw. I would like to share with you my passion for the history of Poland present in the pictures of Matejko and many other marvelous Polish painters.
